Kalnasalas Bog
Kalnasalas Bog is a raised bog in Kārsava municipality, about 10 km eastwards from Kārsava town. It is a part of the Rītupe River basin.
Area: 612 ha.
Average depth of the peat layer: 1.3 m; deepest: 3.5 m
Total peat deposit: 6.7 mil m3.
The upper layer of peat has little decomposed; in lower layers it is medium and well decayed. The bog emerged, when a water basin overgrew. To drain the bog water in the south-western part there is a ditch. The bog is overgrown with forest and small pine-trees.
