Lake Zvirgzdenes (Zvirgzdines) is located on Rēzekne plain of the Latgales upland, in Zvirgzdene parish of Cibla municipality, on the north-western border of Ludza town. It is at 133.2 m above sea level. The lake is a part of the group of Ludzas lakes.

The lakebed is long and has many coves. The shores are mostly sloping or steep, in the western part they are low and peaty. The bottom is even and sandy.

In the middle of the lake there are 6 islands overgrown with trees; the largest of them are Liepu and Ozolu islands. The smallest are Lakstīgalu, Mīlestības and Ievu islands. From 1977 to 1999 the islands were a botanic reserve.

In the west the Stauka River flows into the lake from Lake Cirmas, in the south-east the Plītnīca River flows into Small Ludza Lake. It is a eutrophic lake. At the end of the lake there is Zvirgzdene village.

Area: 1.34 km2, total area with islands: 1.36 km2

Length: 2.7 km, max. width: 0.9 km.

Average depth: 2.6 m, max. depth: 4.7 m.

Basin: 67.6 km2 (it belongs to the basin of the Velikaya River).
